LAE Daddy

Today, Shien Wei brought us all to the SAE Hangar (his workplace) and the children got to see the planes up close and personal. Jia Wen had fun but believe it or not, Jia Xiang was quite scared of the planes. I think he is taken aback at how BIG the plane actually is. The tyres were taller than him!

Fraser's Hill

My dad managed to book the Mallaig Bungalow at Fraser's Hill last weekend and we drove up there for 3D2N weekend. We (me in particular) were looking forward to the trip mainly because of the cool weather and knowing that there will be a huge garden for the kids to runabout and yet not sweat!

The Mallaig Bungalow belongs to Shell Berhad and being a Shell staff for the longest time, my dad managed to secure 1 suite at the Bungalow for us for the weekend.

The journey up took longer than I remember. We went through Rawang town before arriving at Kuala Kubu Bharu and thats where the windy road begins up to Fraser's Hill. Before I got too quesy, I exchanged places with my dad and got on the front seat where I know I won't feel so bad. Even then, I could feel the discomfort and I think Jia Xiang felt a it a little too. Jia Wen was fine.

The road from Kuala Kubu Bharu is a two-way-traffic road which turned out to be quite scenic as we passed a beautiful water dam and some monkeys along the way. We reached "the Gap" where we had to wait for an odd hour before we can drive up the single-one-way-traffic road (even hours for traffic to come down). It was indeed a windy road but we reached Fraser's Hill town with a sigh of relief. We headed straight up to the Mallaig Bungalow.

When my dad made the reservation, he was told that the bungalow looks exactly like the one in Cameron Highlands which we have been before several years ago and so we really didn't expect too much because the one in Cameron Highlands was small. But when we saw Mallaig, we fell in love and we were really really impressed. We were in awe at the size of our suite. There are 2 suites in the Mallaig and we got the nicer one (I think). We stayed at Oriole suite.

The moment we went in, it was like stepping into a different era - the colonial era where the furnitures were old but not too old and the windows are dream windows! The whole bungalow is built with stones and the wooden flooring definitely gave a soft touch to the whole place. And thats just the living room area. When we walked into the master bedroom - all of us WOWed in unison! It was a bedroom that I can only dream of! Windows all over... plus a huge bathroom with a tub!! We toured around the house and we were like "so big, so big, this is big".

We got settled in but the weather wasn't on our side - it rained most of the time we were up there but the rain made it all the more colder and all the more it felt like we were some place different, someplace foreign ... hmmm.. .like the alps? hhaha... Well, with all the mist and fog, it can be like the Alps! :-P

We stayed in most of the time but the next day, we drove around the hill and we know for sure that there was horseback riding somewhere and when we got there, it was closed for some kind of renovation. It seems like the whole place including the town is under renovation. Even the golf course didn't have anyone playing in it. Fraser's is a place with nothing to do. No recreational stuff except for walking and running but if you like to just relax and do nothing.. Fraser's is the place. If you want activities and things to do - go to Cameron Highlands.

We didn't have to worry at all about food because the caretakers at Mallaig cooked all the meals for us for a minimal amount. We could really get used to such a lifestyle! Looking for food at Fraser's may be a headache seeing that there aren't many places to eat. But most bungalows come with caretakers who can provide meals for a sum.

Fraser's Hill has quite a number of bungalows both private and for public to rent. There's this company www.hrhbungalows.com that owns a few bungalows up there and rents it out to the public. Go check it out.

Jia Wen and Jia Xiang enjoyed the weather and enjoyed running around the garden eventhough it was wet and soggy. It was a good weekend for us and the kids. We enjoyed ourselves.

On our way down, Jia Xiang puked twice in the car - on me! He really didn't feel very well in the car but as soon as we got home, he was ALIVE! It was a good weekend!

Weekend At Fraser's Hill

The Mallaig Bungalow

The Mallaig Bungalow consists of 2 suites, this was our Oriole Suite

The master bedroom has this huge bay window which overlooks the whole garden. The house surrouded by huge windows like these which brightens up the house and gives view of the entire outside.

Melaka Zoo

We brought our kids to the Melaka Zoo last weekend and I must say that I was impressed with the zoo there. For a state zoo, it has a very good collection of animals. Jia Xiang enjoyed walking the most and Jia Wen definitely did better than she did in Singapore Zoo last year - she wasn't whining and crying to go home every 3 minutes.
